This standard provides a basis for the calibration and use of gas proportional counters with or without active guard detectors. This standard is intended for use by persons who have an understanding of the principles of gas proportional counting and are responsible for the development of the correct procedures for the calibration and use of these radiation measurement counters. References [B6], [B7], and [B11]1 provide information on the principles of operation of alpha/beta proportional counters.
