This Standard sets out requirements for the design, construction and testing of isolated electrical supplies for medical use.
The requirements are applicable to the electrical supply reticulated to electrical outlets, equipment and accessories in patient treatment areas and to freestanding supply systems that might be used to supply a single patient location. Such systems might be part of the fixed electrical installation or incorporated in an emergency trolley ('crash cart') used to upgrade temporarily a patient treatment area to be used to undertake a body-type procedure or a cardiac-type procedure.
This Standard does not apply to electrical power supplies incorporated within equipment. Requirements for such supplies are specified in AS 3200.1 and AS/NZS 3100.
