AN ENGINEERING ASSESSMENT OF ACOUSTIC METHODS OF LEAK DETECTION IN ABOVEGROUND STORAGE TANKS
American Petroleum Institute
Provides the results of a leak detection project in aboveground storage tanks which utilized acoustic methods to detect leaks. A series of field tests were conducted on a 114-foot diameter tank that contained a heavy naphtha petroleum product. The analytical and experimental results of this project suggest that passive-acoustic leak detection methods can be used to detect small leaks in aboveground storage tanks.
